Once upon a time I thought I could sing. I sang in a church choir from the time I was in fifth grade until 2010. That’s an awfully long time to fool oneself into believing in a talent. These days I stick with karaoke, my signature songs being “Broken Road” and “I Hope You Dance.” I’m sure my friends are tired of the same old same old. I have this karaoke wish list of songs I’d like to try, but I can’t ever remember to bring it with me.
Senior year of high school I wrote the lyrics to a song that my high school choir sang for our spring concert. It wasn’t anything special, but it was pretty amazing to the naive eighteen year old version of myself. I can’t neglect to give a special shout out to Mark Gifford for the wonderful accompaniment for our song. He’s quite the organist. If you haven’t heard of him than you should Google him. Now! If I had a way to transfer said concert from VHS into a digital format I would most definitely attach it to this post. It would certainly provide some humor into your day. As soon as the song was over I broke out sobbing. It was because I had written the song for a high school boyfriend. You know the song that goes something like ‘the first cut is the deepest?’ I concur with that sentiment. I think I have a copy of the sheet music for the song I wrote somewhere. If I find it I may or may not scan and attach it.
I’ve digressed- another bad habit of mine. I started working on this list right before I turned 29+1, but kind of forgot about it. My goal was to come up with a list of songs that could define each year of my twenties. I failed in finding just one song for each year, some songs tied. Some of these songs may not have even been released until after the year they were chosen for. I’m a perfectionist at times, but not right now 🙂

2012- The year I fell in love with music by Adele, discovered A Fine Frenzy, and renewed my appreciation for Kelly Clarkson and The Fray . I’ve decided to choose a song for every month of this year. Hopefully I’ll remember to add a post at the end of each month with my selection.

Warning: This list is subject to change. There are so many wonderful songs out there. I may find lyrics that speak to me in a way that others haven’t, and throw them on here. I really hope I remember to list the rest as the year goes by. I don’t think I’ve expressed just how much music makes me happy. It’s late and my brain is starting to turn to mush. Sweet dreams world!
PS- This isn’t set to post until tomorrow, so it won’t exactly be bedtime anymore. I suppose the proper closing would be Happy Friday?
